Boats and beaches
Glossopdale Sea Angling Club has been quietly active in the High Peak for many years, organising some good quality angling for our membersWe do our fishing from boats, using only those properly equipped and carrying a licence from the Marine Safety Agency.
There are a few club members who also enjoy beach fishing. In fact, most of us participate in other branches of the sport too.
Sunday sport
We manage about a dozen trips a year, sailing mainly from the Welsh coast, from Rhyl, around to Pwllheli. The trips usually take place on Sundays - that’s the day that most people have free.
Further afield
Every year we have a three-day event further afield, to the best angling ports in the country, such as Weymouth and Plymouth. Every three years or so, we go even further, instead, to Ireland or Scotland.
Deep waters
The club is open to all who can manage the physical exertions. We recommend an age limit of 12 years for the shorter, eight-hour inshore trips, but this does depend on how sturdy the child is. Twelve-hour offshore trips into deep waters demand more strength and endurance. Unfortunately, there are few boats in the country equipped to take people with major physical disabilities.
Try your hand
The club owns some good quality, modern tackle for use by beginners and guests – you can try your hand without having to cope with a friend’s “spare” rod and reel.
Monthly meetings
We meet once a month, currently at the Prince of Wales pub in Milltown. We try to keep to the first Sunday in the month, but fishing trips take precedence.
You will also see us at local events, raising money for the Lifeboats.
